Purple Cow

When I was a child my mom and Grandma Peterson had ceramic purple cow figurines.  There was a little poem we often repeated about these cows.  "I never saw a purple cow.  I never hope to see one.  But I can tell you anyhow I'd rather see than be one."   So when Brad and I went to Little Rock, AR we just had to go eat at the Purple Cow restaurant.  And we also had to eat at Corky's--recommended by Shand as he served here on his mission.

I remember G&G Cowley's end tables by the arm chairs.  They had little doors with mesh-wire on them.  They looked like little jail cells.  It was fun to put her Yoda and other Star Wars figures in there.  That was about the only thing to do at their house.

There were some games in the hall coat closet way up high where kids couldn't reach them.  The antique Chinese Checkers, etc.  There also was a small basket of toys in the spare bedroom.  But most of all was the massive backyard that you could run and play in--oh, I mean the clift you could fall off.

Ohhhhh, never, never, never go down the back hill, big trouble!!!!  Mom said there was poison oak down there, she threatened me with my life not to play down there.  No yard, no toys, kinda boring for the grandkids.

I remember two games in that hall closet, Simon, which was awesome, and that dancing weird nutcracker guy that you could tap the wooden board and make him dance. There was all kinds of fun things to do at G&G Cowleys...ride the skateboard down the sidewalk of death, watch hawaii five-O, eat grape nuts, and try to make sure you didnt upset Grandma. I also remember their house was the first time I ever experienced an earthquake..early one morning at like 6am, sleeping in the back bedroom on the floor. Woke me up, and I said, to Sean, "what was that?" "it was an earthquake" and he just went back to sleep....while I had horrible visions of the house crashing down on us.

Well the other thing to do was play with Star Wars men and throw them up in the air onto G&G Cowley's roof... but unfortunately when your little brother doesn't tell you that he did just that with your Boba Fett figurine until you are 600 miles away, there isn't much you can do about it.

Ahhhhh that is so neat to hear what you remember.  I wonder if my grandkids don't want to upset me either?  I remember that wooden dancing thing too.  So is Boba Fett still up there?

All I remember is the dancing wooden guy.  And ya, no back yard to play in. And I always wondered why we weren't allowed to touch the Yoda either.

the long, cement gutter going across the back of the property.  Always full of pine needles.  I remember she always had cherry tomatoes growing.  That's when I first fell in love with those tomatoes.

aawwwwe, Geoff, that was a sweet memory!  Simon still works, Mckenna loves it, I will bring it out next time you guys visit!  Where did grandma keep the "Yoda"???  Remember????  I keep him in the same sort of place!  No Valorie, I don't think it is the Green Yoda!  How did you guys climb up on the roof to get your star wars things back?  I got in big trouble for going up there to sun tan!   I know, I know that it a weird place to sun tan, but there was no other place to do it!    You guys are lucky you never got caught going up there.
