We left NYC Friday afternoon and traveled to DC on the Megabus. It was only $9 per person so even Presley got a seat--and the price included Wifi. It was a double decker so we got great views all the way.
Nice, DC is a top 5 place to visit. No Korean War memorial pix? That's the best memorial.
Nah, we were so tired we just walked straight through to the street so we could get a taxi home.
Yeah, there is one. Brad and I went there but Alesha and Ty just looked through the trees.
No pic though
So how was Megabus? I'm thinking of taking that from DC to New York next summer -- the reviews on Yelp are terrible!! Say it's always late, rude drivers, etc. What did you think?
REALLY?
Ty's friend who lives in DC suggested it or we would never have known about it. I researched and saw very favorable reviews--in fact saying that Megas Bus was preferred over the Bolt Bus and Greyhound. That was good as Megas Bus fit my schedule better and was cheaper. I expected to pay $25 each but diff times have diff prices and our time was $9. I was a little apprehensive when I saw we just lined up at Penn Station in NYC on the sidewalk and hopped on--no desk, no office nothing. But I was really surprised how well it went. It was Fri afternoon commute time so need to take into account a lot of traffic snarling out of NYC so that was a delay--not sure about other times. Once we got going we flew along. We chose the upper level for the view. Not sure if it is a little bumpier ride up there--would like to test the lower level sometime to compare. It was really fun being able to see from up there---funny never seen a semi at that level. I was shocked to see how quiet it was inside. No one talked. There were a few kids but not a word out of them. It was way quieter than an airplane. I felt like Brad, Ty, Alesha and I had to whisper as not to disturb anyone. Luckily Pres slept most of the way. We had the Wifi so were on our laptops the whole time. My air above my head didn't work but we all traded around anyway--we had 6 seats between us--paid for 5. Even if it worked I would have turned it off but all the others worked fine. The seats were comfortable--more roomy than a plane--reclined. It seemed to be clean--that is very important to me. I would say it was about an hour late arriving but that was due again to NYC traffic. I would just not make a tight schedule for arrival. It may have left a little late too. The real funny thing is Ty showed them some scrap of paper that I had written the confirmation # on and they never once asked for tickets or anything from the rest of us the whole trip. There was no speaker making announcements--nothing--just a quiet ride. Then when we got to DC they just let you out at a parking lot downtown by the mall and that was it. I thought our driver was nice. He said cause Alesha had a baby that she go to the front of the line.
Great! Thanks for all the info. I was a bit surprised by all the negativity on Yelp, but then again, maybe people are more inclined to post a comment when they're upset about something. Enjoyed looking at your pics as we will be going next summer (in June though, so hopefully it won't be so hot and humid!).
Ya I can see where people could write bad reviews. Like my mom said, her air didn't work but it eventually is cold enough that you don't need your air on directly above you. Tyler's power outlet didn't work so we had to switch seats. But got internet pretty well and the bus was really quiet. I think it did leave like 5 or 10 minutes late but I think that's because there was so much traffic, it got there late. I thought it was really clean and nice and you can't beat $9. A little bouncy up top. Definitely bring some snacks to eat! I was starving the whole time and the ride ended up taking longer because traffic in NY and along the way.
