I have always loved SanFrancisco. It was a great place to go when you wanted to shop, at Christmas for all the decorations etc. It was really an interesting place to drive in too when you had a 37 Ford. When you stopped at a stop sign on a steep and I really do mean STEEP hill to get the car going again with out killing the engine. Pull your foot quickly from the brake to the accelerator, pop the clutch without rolling backward. Neat trick.
Remember the old Studebakers? My Grandpa was a dealer, and my parents actually met in it around 1937. These cars had a hillholder feature which activated the brake until the clutch was released-very handy when trying to get uphill. I guess this feature was really unique, and I heard alot about these cars growing up. My grandpa sold them their first car after they married-- a1940 Studebaker Commander-- and I have pictures of it. But I bet you already know about this! My Dad was drafted after he bought the car for $1067, and sold it used for $1100 in 1943. Cars were scare in those days, which I'm sure you also remember!!
great view! beautiful picture.
I remember too many times I had to stop at a sign or light at the top of a steep hill in Frisco in my VW bug. Soooo scary especially with a car right behind you. I was only 16.
