Troy the Ironman - St. George

It was so fun this weekend to have Uncle Troy come stay with us and compete in the Ford Ironman!  People say it is the toughest Ironman in the world.  Seems that way with how many hills there are on the course, as well as the 93 degree weather this year.  But Troy stayed strong throughout and always gave us a smile and a wave when he passed.  Macy already misses Uncle Troy!

Great job with the pictures.  My first Ironman by proxy.  Amazing, amazing.  So proud of you, Troy.

Congratulations ! Troy you did it again.  We are in Awe of your accomplishments and stamina.  It was great that you had your own cheering section.   Can't believe the heat and how you handled it with it having been so cold up here.  We Love you  Mom and Dad.

For the record, an ironman is a 2.4 miles of swimming in open water, which is 175 laps in a standard swimming pool just to give you some idea of the absurdity, followed by 112 miles on a bike, which would take the boy scouts about 2.5 weeks to cover (as compared to the 50 miler one week ride they used to do) and even at the peak of my race cycling days i only ever rode that distance once and it took me 8 hours and I could barely walk when I was done, and then a marathon, which in comparison to the 6 I ran the other day, seems absolutely insane. Moment of silence for Iron Man Troy and making the seemingly impossible possible.

Great job on the action shots, Jodi!  I think you may have a future in photographing race events.  Loved the photos, helped me feel like I didn't miss out so much.  Thanks for hosting, I'm sure it was fun for him to get to spend a little quality time with your family.  We are all glad he is coming home today.

We had such a blast.  I mean watching the Ironman is amazing enough but then getting to cheer someone on makes it even more fun.  I told him he has to come back next year but he only promised that he'd think about it.  :-)

Incredible job Troy.  I posted the finish video on FB in as good a quality as I could get it.  Not great, but it's there.

Congrats, Troy. It was fun to have you here for your brief stopover. If you do it again next year maybe we'll come down and cheer you on along with Jodi.

I'm in awe of Troy and always have been . . . but I just really want to go to St. George to be adored by those kids.  Oh, and to play golf with Dave.

Highlight of the week was spending time with Dave, Jodi, Macy and Max (well, Boscoe too, but he never really took to me the way the kids did.)  I'd be much quicker to commit to a golf trip to St. George than another Ironman there... the race course is simply sadistic.  Just when you think you're cruising home, they throw another uphill at you.  The golf coruses, and I saw three along the race route, looked much more inviting.

Troy, not sure why you're complaining, I ran 3 miles this morning and it was partly cloudy with a small chance of rain!

I should have thrown my club in the truck... it wouldn't have added that much to all the crap I was already hauling.  I'm sure we could have rented a cart to round the golf course.

Troy, great job! I'm always impressed.

Jodi, we're heading your way this summer, I think end of July. I don't know whether we're up for golfing, but at least dinner! We're trying to finalize our trip schedule - I'll have to email you privately to get some advice on what we need to make sure to see.
