The Studebaker-back to work

Submitted by Brad on Fri, 10/01/2010 at 3:03pm.

At the age of 70 years, the Studebaker has been called back to work. The Santa Ana Historical Society wants to use it at their 40's theme historical tour on October 23rd. Then today I got a call from the Chamber of Commerce for the City of Fountain Valley: they want me to drive the Mayor in it to the Mayors Ball at the end of this month. Their theme is "Old Hollywood" for the dance, and it fits well into that. I haven't even registered it for movies yet, but I hear demand for old cars in period movies is really low these days. The Stude is getting gigs without advertisement.

Sweet.  I wonder how that works in movies... if they 'rent' your car, and then it were to get damaged.  Insurance wouldn't do much good, if original parts are impossible to find.

You have to insure it yourself,  and with a car like mine, for full value to buy another like model. Parts would be impossible to completely duplicate if it were totalled. I have mine insured for $15,000--and its probably not even worth that much. You can drive the car yourself if you want,  but you  have to wait around alot for the scene to appear. They pay you and you get free food, get to meet the stars, etc. Movie production -especially in OC- is really low now. I can't even find many 40 Studebakers for sale anywhere, but these cars are still not worth that much. So I am taking a wild guess at its true value. Its a hobby, not an investment.

That's pretty cool Brad.. tell them you want to drive Dick Tracy around and shoot Tommy Guns in the next movie.
