The Ducks

Submitted by kylie on Thu, 01/21/2010 at 2:11pm.

So we have a pool in our backyard right? Well DUCKS CAME INTO OUR POOL!!! We had seen them the first time when it was about when it was the first week that we had moved in, so the ducks came about 4 times in all. Today they came and we fed them some bread.....so they should keep coming back. If they start to poop in the pools to much then we cannot keep feeding them anymore. But I named them. The girls name is Shamoa and the boys name is Shamoo. But I just call the boy Green Head and the girl Lucky Duck. I do not know where I got those names they just came into my head a few seconds ago. So I just want to tell you so, yah. Bye.

Haha, thanks for the story, Doobie.  I like reading them.  It's a nice break while I am at work.

That's so fun, Kylie. When I lived in CA and had a house with a pool we had ducks in our pool too! But ya Grandpa Clark didn't want them pooping in the pool too much so we tried to not feed them. But they are fun to have as pets once in a while. Maybe in the spring time they will have babies!!

I was going to swim in your pool but not now.  If there are birds in your pool there is also going to be bird poop guaranteed, even if you can't see it because it's all disolved. Look at how nasty the water at Disneyland or parks are that ducks sit in all day.

come on Sean do you always have to look on the dark side.  You've probably swam in worse than that in your life on the river.  Having ducks like we used to in Hillsboro is greatly missed but if we had them here they would just be coyote food.  they really used to keep the bugs and especially the slugs down so it was not just the fun of watching them.

Sorry, I am with Sean.  I told Doobie not to let the ducks in the pool as she will never get rid of them.  They were NEVER allowed in our pool in FV.  AND they will come back and have babies AND those babies will come back.  Our neighbors have a pool and they are always chasing them out and they fly up on the roof.  But I do love your story, Doobie.

We don't have any problems with them in our KMart plastic pool.

well we put up with our pair because Dawn is such an animal lover.  We don't heat our pool, so we never swim in it during the winter months, and especially now that it's drained awaiting leak repair.  The poop on the deck is much more annoying to me.  I doubt the dissolved duck poop in the chlorinated pool is much worse than all the dead skin and dandruff that washes off all the swimmers anyway.  And that's hoping that swimmers aren't peein in the pool....

I love ducks, they are perfect with their crispy skin, juicy meet, and mmmmmmm so tasty with a little steamed rice.

If I could be any animal it would be a duck.  They can do everything.... fly, swim, float on top of the water and walk on land.

Dude, duck is not good at all to eat.  It's all squishy and fatty.  Might as well eat chicken if it "tastes like chicken" anyways.  However, ducks are fun to chase around and feed, just not in my pool if I had one.

Duck has a lot more flavor in it than chicken does (probably because of all the fat). But even if you eat around all the fat, that squishy juicyness is what makes it mmmmmmm goood. Maybe you've lived in Oregon too long already.

How is Fella doing?

Tude, don't make me nauseous or however you spell that.

Fella is in recovery.  He gets to spend a week or more in the bathroom.   He has a big bite and an absess the size of a roll of quarters.  Doc cleaned it out but we have to keep squishing it like a zit twice a day.

I think Geoff and Jodie might just have a Fedex package with holes punched in it on their porch tomorrow morning.

What are you talking about Fella and Fedex packages?  Did he get tore up in a fight?

Glad to hear that Fella is recovering. If you need a list of expensive Vets here in Southern California that we have used, we can provide. Deja currently has vets in Utah and California and is happy with both. Deja is on a National Health Plan.

Fella showed up last night with a huge absess on his left hind quarters.  It's painful for him and he will try and bite you if you touch it.  Looks like he got bit by something.

Give fella my regards and wishes to get better soon.  So nice of you guys to save the $150 and clean out the wound daily instead of putting in a drain.

It will be sad when Fella has to leave but the girls know he is going to leave sometime.  The vet bill made me rethink wanting a pet...  the best pet really is someone elses: )

Kylie, he's your cat so it's going under YOUR blog.  You should have seen all the puss we squeezed out last night.  DIS- GUS- TING.  Fella was hissing and growling trying to bite us.

The best pet is one that someone else cares for, pays the medical bills, and cleans up their messes........and rescues them from the pound! But we love Deja. Ownership is really not an issue.

Fella has the best pet owners... unlike Brad we don't have to buy food, cat litter or pay for vet bills.   It was so nice calling Jodie and telling her what the bill was and she had a check in the mail that day: )  She even begged us to spend the extra $150 to make it easier on us.

The real joy of Deja is- even after 7 years- I still have to beg her to go back into the garage each morning when I leave for work. She will stare at you with a  blank look like "its not in my job description." And if she feels like it, she will just run off into the neighborhood.
