Tacky or Not?

Submitted by Courtney on Mon, 07/20/2009 at 8:29pm.

So thoughts arise as we are getting down to preparing and sending out the invites. At first I was thinking why not just do an Evite they are simple and quick and you get an instant response. However, we (I) decided to make invitations instead.  I still do love the idea of making it simple and quick. So my question would be do you think it's tacky to put a RSVP to an email address or phone number rather than having the RSVP card and envelope that has to be sent back? What are peoples thoughts?

hi this is lynh...i dont think it's tacky. I offered it as an option on my email rsvps.  You could be put on the invite that it's your way of "going green" :)

hi lynh again :) I just re-read my post and wow...I mustve been half sleeping or 3/4 of my brain was missing... I mean--I offered email and ph as an option on my invitations. Not my email rsvps...

And the last part of the post i meant to say:  "you could put on the invite that its your way of going green."

There I think that was English this time. :)

I agree with Lynh and if anyone knows anything about weddings it is Lynh.  She is the authority.

I agree, I don't think it's tacky. I do like the idea of a real invitation instead of Evite, because it's nice to be able to stick it on my bulletin board to refer to. And it's a nice keepsake for you. But I don't think the RSVP card is necessary, an email and/or phone is easier to respond to.

Agree with the above, though a phone option would be good if people don't use e-mail much.  I don't know who that is...I don't know what I would do without it.  So much faster and easier to coordinate than a phone call.  Sad, huh?

As a recent bride, I'd like to throw in my 2 cents. No, it absolutely is NOT tacky to offer email/phone RSVP options to people. Some of the older generations might find it strange and/or not have email, so you may want to make a point of calling them personally a few days before your catering deadline to get their response. AND, I would say that it is worth it to call/email any people that have not RSVPed by your deadline so that you are not stressed about your numbers being correct, etc. I wish I had done that sooner! The one major drawback to not having RSVP cards is that you won't get a fun surprise in the mail everyday! I loved seeing those cards come back to me with little notes of congratulations and good wishes, people expressing their excitement at our big event, etc. So fun. I even kept them, although I haven't a clue what I'll do with them besides fill a box! =) PLUS, (and this is a biggie) postage is out of control expensive!! That $50+ you will save in not having to provide postage for the RSVP cards can be used for something much better! Have fun planning!

I agree, e-mail/phone RSVP's are the way to go.  To me it is so much easier to zip off an e-mail than to remember to send a note back, or even call!  Happy planning!

We think the E-mail or phone call it great.  Saves postage and the expense of another card.  I like Jamie half the time forget to return the RSVP card.  Love having the announcment card to put on the fridge so that we don'e forget.  hen it goes in our album along with any pictures we take at the actual wedding.
