My Tri........TRY

Submitted by Jacobe87 on Tue, 05/06/2008 at 11:13pm.

Well Uncle Troy thanks for the opening but I gotta tell ya your not an easy man to keep up with. My Sprint was a little different then good ol Troy boys, mainly the bike, it was 17.1 but run and swim were the same 3.1 and 500 yards respectively To start off with I knew my swim time was bad so I got in the slow group to start I said i would swim it in 12 minutes but I finished it in 10.49. I then moved to the bike. Now my idea was to ride just some old mountain bike but Troy would have none of that so I now am purchasing the state of the art bike that he hooked me up with. I got on the bike not knowing the coarse at all, but I did know that riding a bike is something that I loved and that I could probably push myself because it was only a 3.1 mile run after. Well I finished the bike in 1:08.02.......yea that more than an hour. It was a very hilly coarse and even though I thought I would be faster I did pass about 15 to 25 people while only being passed once ( but that guy was flyin ) I got off the bike and stated to run and soon realized that even though I had ran three miles just about every week of my Marine Corps career I had never done it after a 17.1 mile ride. My legs flet like jello and I only had one speed and that was just go. I finished the run in 24.21 not so bad, but not even close to my under 18 minute pace I used to run as a jarhead. All together my time was 1:50.02 or something there about. I have been asked several times if I liked it and if I would do it again or others. Well as Troy said I knocked the first one out of the way, and like I told him I loved it and am looking forward to do many more. I plan or riding my bike to school tomorrow weather permitting. Thats a short 16.7 there and 16.7 back good to start training for my Iron Man...................YEA RIGHT.

I'm totally impressed.  I might try to do something more than a run someday ...

That is great, Jacob.  I admire your efforts and actually sounds fun riding that new bike--except there are hills.  Clever title for your blog.

Sweeeeet.  I've always wanted to try a tri but then I get lazy.  I'll just live through that experience through you and Troy.  Sounds like you're on your way!   :-)

I like the title, too :-) Although it definitely qualifies as more than a try - you completed it, great job! My tri try would probably be a real try, I don't know whether I could finish even a sprint. Maybe someday...

Anyway, congrats and I hope you get into doing more of them. It's fun to read about it vicariously!

Jacob, nice first start.  And by the way, I walked part of the run in my first triathlon, so it's only taken me 20 years or so to get the formula right.  There's a nice flat sprint at BLue Lake Park up here in mid-June.  I'm doing the Sunday race, but if you sign up, I'll go out and cheer you on.  And just so you don't have to drive so far, we'll even put you up the night before.

Jacob, this is really Pam, STRONG work.  The jello legs thing-I get it.  All I knew was I had friends at the finish line, including my husband, and I couldn't look like a dork.  I thought I finished strong, but it was mostly thanks to the really loud music I had on the Ipod.  I don't think the real atheletes use Ipods, but I had to have someone scream at me throughout the race.  I think I'd be willing to do another as well....but super work on the First TRI!

Nice job cuzzzzzzzzzzzzin.  I didn't know you had done one already.  Call me next time you do one and I'll come bring you a gatorade (so that Jason can win the $100).  Let me know if you need a training bike.  Michelle has a sweet purple huffy with a banana seat in the garage.  Ask them if you can use my jetski for the swim.  GO CUZZZ.
