How many other Seversons in the US?

Submitted by sarahseverson on Tue, 04/17/2007 at 1:06pm.

Hey Seversons... a friend just send me a link to a web site, http://howmanyofme.com

You put in your name and find out how many of you there are (same first, last and both names).

It's pretty interesting, there are 24 people in the US named Sarah Severson (and 100 people w/ my maiden name, Sarah Stuart)!

According to this web site, there are 9,441 people in the US w/ the last name Severson, and it's the 3886th most popular last name. Anyway, just thought it would be fun to pass that along.

That was fun Sarah. And now because I like to make a game out of everything, here's a challenge for everyone. WITHOUT LOOKING, see if you can figure out which member of my family has the most common first and last name and which has the least common. (Names are Brent Green, Charlotte Green, Leah Winslow, Alex Green). There was a surprise to me, so good luck!!

My guess is Leah Winslow!   So, according to the website, there are 0 Cami Severson's (because it is based on the 1990 census) and 1 Cami Harrington (ME!!) I guess I am a one and only!  There is only 1 Levi Severson in the US, 0 Calder Seversons - 0 Calder's for that matter, and 0 Ansel's/Ansel Severson's.   Besides Joseph (who's name is one out of 2,124,925 Josephs) Levi is the next common with 37,703 occurences in the US.  There are only 4524 Cami's.  And, according to the census, there are also 0 Kaelan/Kaelan Severson's.  Very fun!  Thanks Sarah!

The least common must be Leah Winslow...and most common maybe Alex Green?  Cole's name was the least common in our family and it even says there are "0" Cole Seversons.  Hmmm....maybe because he wasn't born by 1990?

I'm going to be different and say Charlotte is least common and agree that Alex is most common. It's fun to see all of your stats!

i'm confused, because i should be the only G-E-O-F-F-R-Y which is officially a mispelling for GEOFFREY, but it says 0 geoffry's.  But it did say there were 2 GEOFFREY SEVERSONS, so, not sure its working right...

It also said 0 Jarom Seversons.

I agree, this was fun! There is only 1 Aimee Severson listed, should be me if this was 1990 census data. And I think that may be right, I googled the name and the hits pretty much refer to me. (Although there is apparently a Caroline Aimee Severson who graduated from Newark High School.)

To continue, Aimee Wood there were 40 and Allen Wood 260 (including one in Pennsylvania we know about because he got a bunch of DUI's and got matched for Allen's Little League background check :-)

Michael Wood: 3903
Gabriella Wood: 7
Jared Wood: 105
Nathan Wood: 273

Apparently, I just read the FAQ on the web site, they are not counting actual people. They are just doing statistical summaries. Although it is weird that both Cami and I would get exactly one hit with our maiden names.

The FAQ says that the list of names from the census bureau was not complete, due to privacy reasons. So names which are very low in number will not show up. Thus the 0 for Ansel, Geoffry, Jarom, etc.

Okay, sorry, last comment. Actually a challenge. Can you find any relative's names (ie someone who'd be at our reunion) who is more common than Michael Wood? He had 3903 matches.

Yes, very fun, but obviously, very wrong.  Says there are 0 people named Brandt (first name) in the US, and including myself, I now know of 8, including 2 who are PGA professionals.  It also says there are no "Brandt Seversons", and oddly, there are 2 -- the other guy is some NASA scientist who lived in SoCal in the early 90's.

Thanks for pointing this out, Sarah.  I'm glad I only know one Sarah Severson, because those who have known me a long time will attest that if there was a second one, I would probably be a very unhappy guy!

I didn't get your comment at first, Brandt. I had to think about it, but finally figured out you're referring to your infamous ex-girlfriend Sarah. Yeah, that would have been bad!! Okay, so the website is probably not correct, but according to their statistics, Leah Winslow is the least common of name of my immediate family (only 7!) and Charlotte Green is the MOST common with 466. Alex had 323 and Brent had 248.

I know of another Troy Severson who was a place kicker on a small college football team.  It's fun to just do a google search on your name too.  I once found an article that quoted me that I didn't remember giving the interview for.

I've always been a little proud that the other Ben Severson is a professional body boarder. Somehow I always felt like it was proof that my name was cool.
However, in Freakonomics (a recent popular book I read), there is a study on the effect that a name has on one's success in life. The author is pretty sure there is no correlation. There are some pretty funny examples in the book of a father who names one son loser and the other winner. Winner turns out to be a loser and loser a winner. Also twins named lemonjello and orangejello are turning out just fine.
