Fishers of Idaho

Submitted by geoff on Mon, 01/28/2008 at 9:46am.

alright, I am heading to Idaho for a week, and want some guidance.  I will be in Burley Idaho for most of the week.  Staying at Jodie's parents house.    Troy suggested a stream near Sun Valley, but couldn't remember the name.

Suggestions from anyone?  Where should I go, that is relatively close to Burley (perhaps within an hour or two)?  Burley is southern, near the Utah border.  And east-west, it is pretty close to the middle.

What--are  you going Ice Fishing?  You're going to freeze your tootsies off.  I can't remember fishing the Burley area, but once, when I was quite young, we fished American Falls.  It was absolutely full of chubs, squawfish and suckers.  Ralph and I thought we were catching good fish, we were sticking them in our pockets and stuff--phew-did we stink.  Cousin's Dale and Norman Severson were with us --Uncle Hi's boys.  Dale broke his dad's fly rod jerking in a big sucker.  Where we were done with the slaughter, there was a whole raft of dead fish floating on the surface, and Dad (Floyd) was wondering if we could start up some kind of fertilizer company at American Falls and harvest all those trash fish for some useful purpose.

I can almost remember the smell of all those Dead fish--rotting in the sun on that summer day long ago.  I think I must have been about 9--which would suggest a date of about summer of 1955.

Maybe Ralph or Dad can suggest a good spot for you Geoff.

thats a great story.  and yes it will be cold, but i'm taking my equipment just in case i have a half-day to do something on my own.  Troy even suggested to just "go and look", because it is so pretty, and not even worry about actually fishing.  That might be an option as well.

This is ole Floyd, not Franky.  The area around Burley for trout fishing is practically extinct I think.  However, Gay Milligan and her husband Bob could give you a lot more info.  They live in Boise so are more familiar with what you might find in and around Burley.  I believe Gay's e mail address is:  gaym@milliganevents.com.  Hopefully they can fill you in on the possibilities - hope this reaches you before you leave.

I heard there are some guys in that area with AK-47's and will take you shooting... I would suggest that option.

I was all of 4 or 5 when Larry and Ralph were catching all those fish, but I remember it too!  They were so excited and they had fish in every pocket!  Great summer memories for young boys!
