The story says there is also one in Orange County.
Troy and I went there on our first date!
I heard one was reopening in OC. There was a Farrell's in Downey, where I grew up that was quite popular. They would serve these huge ice cream dishes called pigs troughs and the servers would sing to you when it was delivered. A really fun place.
Wow! I can't even begin to say how many dates I went on to Farrell's plus we went there as long groups after Saturday night dances -- although we would come close to getting kicked out. Then there was the memorable 4th birthday for Mallory where she hid under the table because she was afraid of the drum --- good times and great memories!
Did we go to that birthday party? I know we went to Farrell's before; I think it was with Shelley's family. We will have to check out the restaurant once they get it opened!
I don't remember ever going there, maybe I did. I will have to check it out. I wonder why it closed.
I went to one a few times when I was a teenager, but didn't really get into it that much because I'm not a big ice cream eater.
i remember it. not a huge ice cream eater anymore, but i'll go if it's nearby.
The popular one I was thinking of in Oakland is Fenton's. Did you guys go to that place much growing up in the area? "you guys" meaning Floyd and Frances' kids. It seems to be a popular after temple trip location.
Yep, I went there many a time in Oakland when I was a teen.
I favored Berkley Farms which was just down the hill from the temple, and where we would go a lot after Saturday night dances at the interstake center. They had great milk shakes with lots of whipped cream, and whopper banana splits. I think that is where Ralph was challenged by someone after a general priesthood meeting that if he could eat another banana split, the challenger would pay for both. And he did, and he did.
Our family still frequents Fenton's in Oakland. Did you notice it made an appearance in the movie "Up" presumably because the Pixar guys are nearby.
Brandt and I used to love going into Farrell's late on a Saturday night after dances, etc. One of our favorite tricks was buying a round of soda water for the house. It was always advertised on the menu for 2 cents a glass, so we never spent more than a buck and the stuff tasted terrible. It was hilarious to watch other customers first look surprised that they were receiving free soda water and then see their faces screw up in disgust at the taste.
haha, hilarious...
Good one, Troy. Now we just need the Gay Parfait to return to Washington Square. I have pics of a party there.
Troy, that's not very nice.
