American Idol pick'ems

Submitted by geoff on Thu, 02/14/2008 at 1:46pm.

Even though we've hardly seen anything or heard anyone, you have to pick now.  Pick a guy - pick a girl.  If either of them win Idol this year, you win nothing.

I know Carly is going to win.  That's the beautiful Irish girl with lots of tattoos.  My guy vote is for David Cook; but not confident about that one.

I haven't had time to keep up on the contestants.  Unofficially I'll just pick the best looking one to win until I have time to hear them sing.

Carly is my favorite but I don't think she will win.  I think a boy will win cause a girl won last year but I can't decide yet because I haven't heard all 24 people sing yet.  I can't believe how many people got thru that I have never seen or heard.   Michael John is really good but I dont' think he will make it that far in the competition.  My least favorite person is the rocker and the really young boy sings really good but I have to fast foward when he talks cause his talking voice bugs me.   I still think Ryan is the best host ever!!

I don't watch until the auditions are over, because I can't stand that part. So I haven't seen the show at all yet. However, I clicked on the link and I predict the winner will be either David or Jason. On the political front, Valorie, you are correct. Obama!!

i agree charlotte.  The auditions are pretty painful.  I hope they eventually quit showing the misfits altogether.  I'd rather only see the people that are actually trying.  And what happened?  I never saw Leah or Kellyn.  Did i miss them?

Actually there are better Presidential candidates on American Idol then there will be on the ballot.  Can we just toss out the ballots and give the oval office to whoever wins Idol?

I have never watched American Idol, I must be one of the few left in the country? So I have no vote. Hmm, I've never watched American Idol and never bought anything from Starbucks, I must be pretty unique.

I've bought a few overpriced cups of hot chocolate from Starbucks when I got gift certificates from people.  I'm relieved I'm not one of the many that stand in huge lines at the airport getting their fix.

No Aimee, I am with you there.  I bought something ONE time from Starbucks from Jamie when she worked there.  Never watched American Idol either--too boring for me and I don't like the yelling singing.

Hahahah I'm with Sean.  I think an American Idol would be a wonderful president, I mean, look who they'd be running against anyway.   Mom I can't believe the only time you've been to Starbucks is when Jamie worked there.  I'm so happy to say I was there with you at that monumental moment.  I got over $200 worth of gift certs from my work in Orange County since that supposedly was the BEST gift idea for everyone in the office; really annoying.  So I can't count how many vanilla creme cocoa's I've had.  I like Kristi Lee Cook but she baaaaarely skimmed by in Hollywood by the judges opinion.  Why??? I thought she was amazing.  She's my personal favorite.  I don't think the average american vote will take her to the top though.

I like Kristi Lee, but I don't think she has a chance to win.  She's too timid.  I don't know them well enough to make a pick yet, but will watch what is next on the DVR and maybe I will have a better idea.

UGHHH.....the boys were HORRIBLE! I fast forwarded through most of them. Why are there so many boys that look like girls? They're gross! Anyways, I'm going to pick my boy from tonight and the girl from tomorrow night since I haven't chosen yet. My favorite was David Archuleta from Utah!

I can't believe how bad they were last night.  The only one I like was Michael.  David was ok but he really bugs me when they interview him.  My favorite comment from Simon was when he told that guy that it looked like he had been locked in his room for a year.   He seriously did look like he had!!  I love how they say they want "current" but yet the most current guy didn't make it., the homeless guy.   I still can't believe he didn't make it!!  So Jay for get my last comment about how great this season is going to be...   after last night you didn't miss out on anything!!!

yah, wow.  what kind of show was that last night?  they all seemed, uhm, like, uhm, hmm, how do you say this politically correct in a non-stereotypical, non-judgemental way... hmm.  They all seemed very gleeful.  I kept waiting for someone to really rock a song, but like 10 of them sung like they were frolicking thru a meadow of white lillies holding a puppy with a unicorn prancing in the distance.   That Noriega "guy" reminded me of Kelly Pickler.  All his little head tilts and blinky winky eye moves, tongue in teethy cheezy weezy crap.  Yeeeeesh.  I seriously hope the girls are better.  The guys were surprisingly bad, after what i thought were strong auditions.

hmmmm I must have been watching a different show last night.  weird!  I thought all the guys have better talent than last year.  The only 3 I want to kick off at this point are the two boring slow songs, and the black guy.  I don't care for the Elvis impersonator skinny guy but he can still sing.   I thought there were a handful of guys that were pretty good!  hahahaa funny.

I am so bummed because Ben messed with our DVR settings and placed Law and Order in a higher priority over American Idol... so our DVR has been recording EVERY Law and Order on cable (and you know it's a lot since it's on all the time) and not getting any of my shows. Hopefully I've fixed it and will be back in the Amer. Idol loop this week! :) It's fun to read all of your comments on the current contestants. I think the auditions are way too drawn out and painful too...

ok I'll pick my girl now. I liked three girls, Alaina, and the two skinny black girls, Asia'h and Syesha. If I have to pick one, I'll say Alaina. Tyler says Syesha and I'd agree but I'll pick someone different. Definitely a girl will win this year, no question!

Hey Sarah - I think you can watch the most recent episode on the internet.  Have to check it out, maybe just recaps.  But better than nothing!    I think Alaina's pretty good, but too much like Carrie Underwood so don't think she'll win.  I hope my girl Carly takes it all!  She sang kind of a boring song last night but to me has a voice like Celine Dion.  I think Syesha is too much like Asiah so Syesha won't get enough votes.  The asian girl has a pretty good voice.

i love how Carly told her story about her record label.  I love how she twisted it, to say that "the record company went under, and so i was on my own."   Uhm, according to reports on the web, your crappy album was cut because it didnt sell worth a crud after they dumped something like $2 million into producing it.

I'm no longer a fan of Carly.  She just lied on TV.  And she looks like a vampire.

Its pretty crazy how bad they all are.  I wasnt impressed by any of them, 'cept maybe Alaina.  But yah, she is too 'carrie underwood'.

Sarah - I can't believe you would let your husband mess with the DVR settings --- well, I guess in our house (with three DVR's) the ladies reign supreme.  Poor Greg has to ask Ainsley how to tape a show if he wants some game taped....there would be no reason on God's green earth to DVR a Law and Order.  You can find it on any channel any time of day or night....Ben, Ben, Ben....course, we all have our weird querks --- I turned on my DVR to find my children had taped me about 10 hours of Jon and Kate plus 8....

Kasey watched american idol with me tonight and when Jason Yeager got up to sing she said "mommy that looks like Tyler but doesn't talk like Tyler"  He really does look like Tyler!!  I don't know if he sings better then Tyler because I've never heard Tyler sing, I just heard he is really good!!

That's so funny -- I said the same thing to Brent last night. I agree he looks a lot like Tyler, although Tyler is cuter and sings better (I've seen videos). I was so disappointed in all those guys last night, I thought I might just quit watching. I didn't like a single song choice (maybe I just don't like 70's music), and I was like why bother with this? Until the last guy. Go David! I got goosebumps. What a tremendous version of Imagine. Now I'll keep watching.

And that makes 3 of us... i said the same thing last night to Jodie.  "He looks a lot like Tyler tonight.  Not sure why, cuz i've never thought that before."   But yah, he did last night.  Too bad he really stinks.  His dancing was embarrassing to watch.   There were 3 decent guys last night.  I still think they are really over-hyping that David Archuleta.  He definitely has the best vocal skills and talent, with a good mix of humility, he isn't all arrogant.  But there is a sound in his voice that just isnt good.  Sounds like he has a slight cold, almost a little froggy.  So i dunno, i doubt he'd sound good as a recording artist.

Oh my gosh! That's so hilarious, not sure how Tyler's going to take that cause we both hate that guy. I didn't think that at all but I'll have to look at him again, I think you guys are saying that cause of his hair? Cause he's not THAT good looking =) Ya if I asked Tyler he wouldn't do it but maybe if Aunt Charlotte or Geoff or Robie asked Tyler to sing he would. I would love him to sing!

Yeah, it must have been something about his hair, cause I didn't notice any resemblance last week. And I will just say again, Tyler is MUCH cuter and much more talented, so he shouldn't be offended. There was just something similar. I will ask Tyler to sing at the reunion. He should DEFINITELY do it!! I think we should just tell him that participation in the talent show is not optional :)

Do you mean the Danny guy?  He really bugs me.  I used to think he was a fine singer and I just didn't like when he talked.  His past couple performances haven't even been good though.  I'd love to see him get kicked off.  And I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of the David Hernandez guy now that his stripper past has been revealed.  But he sang well, so he probably doesn't deserve to go home yet.

i agree Laura.  Hernandez was/is the best male, but i get the willies now just looking at him.  I found myself moving the couch back a little further from the tv when he came on the screen.  I still think Archuleta is super talented and skilled, but his voice tone sounds too much like kermit the frog.

There is something weird, annoying or different about his voice.   I also don't like how he talks and laughs during the interview part.  I love female singers so much more then male singers so I never look forward to the maile night as much as I do the female night.

So who's going home tonight???!  My guess is David Hernandez because I thought his performance was a little cheesy even though he has a good voice.  And the Australian guy, just because he's the second lowest on the list.  Kristy Lee Cook did the 3rd worst I think but she won't go home since she's the one and only country person in the top 12 and across america she'd have the largest fan base.  Can you BELIEVE Archuleta forgot the words??? Oh I was so nervous for him.

I agree with David Hernandez -- plus isn't he the male stripper? Although if I was personally voting, I'd have to say Kristy Lee was the WORST! That was so painful... And I WANT to root for the little Oregon gal, but she was bad. We had to fast forward. Yeah, why was Archuleta so nervous?

I think Kristy Lee will go home tonight.  The song would have been so much better if they would have slowed it down.  I think Dave, the rocker guy, will win it!!   He is the best singer, performer and total package!!!

I think Hernandez, too.  As for why Archuleta was so nervous...remember he is only 16.  Plus, he just seems to be a pretty emotional kid, which probably gets in the way when he is in high pressure situations.

You really think Cook is going to win Robie?!  That'd be cool.  I'll be happy with either Cook or Archuleta winning.  I liked Carly at first but now she's wearing on me because she screams a lot of her songs.  Not soft/strong, like a Celine Dion.  And Kristy is cute but she's not the whole package, kind of akward with her dancing.

I think Kristy Lee Cook was horrible, so she's my vote. Tyler votes for her too, think she did herself in. He also thinks the rocker chick is horrible and thinks she's gotten to be old news.

Cmon - she wasnt horrible.  She sang it really good.  But the arrangement was TERRRRIBLE.  I could barely stand listening to it.  But she actually had good tones and stuff.   I can't believe she agreed to sing that.

But i really think this show is rarely about finding a new talent that we are going to be excited about running out to buy their new album.  Only two of all the Idols have had decent success.

Jordan Sparks, Chris Daughtry, Reuben, Clay, Fantasia, Taylor Hicks, Blake Lewis, Kath McPhee?  cmon.   They will all be filing for bankruptcy in the next few years.

If they would have just slowed the song down it would have been really good.  It would have sounded better as a rap song with it that fast.  The rocker girl is the worst!!!!

Ya Kristy's song was wayyyy to fast.  I agree if it was slowed down and not played so twangy sounding it would have been good.  Country doesn't have to sound so twangy.

okay i think i figured it out, after tonights show.  That David Archuleta guy that i call "froggy"....   i know what i dont like about him.  He has that same sort of nasally voice as James Taylor.   So, i guess if you're a big James Taylor fan, then you probably like his sound.  But i dont.

i think i agree 100% with you robie.  However,  i think the asian girl will last another week, even tho she is by far the worst singer left.  Because i think she has a ton of votes from the asian community.  I think dreadlock guy might go next, because he is so wacked out on drugs, he doesnt even know where he is half the time.  And he never improves.

regardless, i dont think americans are in any hurry to rush out and buy an album from ANY of these singers.  Archuleta would probably sell the most.

I can't stand David Cook. He does give great performances but he is so cocky and full of himself I can't stand it. I really hope he doesn't win it all. Either Brooke or David Archuleta is who I'm hoping for.

OMG!!  David Cook isn't cocky at all.  He is sooo good and in my opinion, better than Chris Daughtry.  David Archuleta is a good singer but the only album he could make that would sale would be a gospel music.  Brooke is good but annoying!!!  She never shuts up when they are interviewing her.  She has to make a comment to EVERYTHING the judges say.  Alesha now I'm begining to wonder if Tyler really can sing....   If you think Brooke and David are the best than you obviously don't know real talent.

OUCH Robie! You don't have to take my word for it about Tyler, I'm sure one less fan for him won't bother his pride. Plus Tyler isn't a singer, he's a guitar player that can sing. I don't want David Cook to win cause exactly that, he's another Daughtry and I'm tired of that rocker sound. I think Brooke has a different sounding voice than most singers out there. Like I said, David Cook is really good just full of himself and even Simon said that few weeks ago, everyone can tell that about him.

I think they should have people call in and vote for their least favorite and the one with the most votes goes home.  Too many people that are really bad keep coming back week after week.

I bet money that Dave Cook, a rocker, would sale more records than Brooke, a folk singer, would sale.   I just don't see a demand for that style of music, maybe around the campfire at woodstock but not for the typical person rocking out in their shower or car.  I think of Brooke as more of a pianist or guitarist that can sing rather than a singer.   I agree with Laura about the calls.   It would be interesting to see if the bad singers would get thru if they did it that way.

i dont see Brooke as a superstar.  i dont see david cook as one either tho.  and archuleta is far from a star.  so i dunno, its fun to watch, but i dont see any big money makers here.

is this show really that good?  why dont you just listen to some CD's of singers you like and stop wasting your time.  stick with shows like The Hills and Gangland that offer some real sensitivity and insight.

Me and Tyler had lunch with Morgan (from Laguna Beach) and Joel (friend of Carrie Underwoods). What a pair huh? Morgan does NOT stop talking! Tyler started talking to her about the show and how MTV once said, "We'll give you a hundred bucks if you say What Happens In Cabo Stays in Cabo". Haha, I bet Robie will remember the episode titled that. But I thought Kristen said it, not Morgan.

I mostly was just laughing at her outfit.  Maybe she was trying to look angelic or something, but skin tight white shorts to her knees and a bustle skirt in the back that goes to the floor?

My contribution to this blog as I never watch American Idol is I watched Simon Cowell on Oprah.  He let them film on the set and it shows him driving up in his $1.2 million Bugatti.  How can a car cost that much?  He gets out and goes into his "trailer" and shows all the amenities and then goes into the studio and up to Ryan Seacrest's dressing room and knocks on the door.  He goes in and sits down and asks Ryan if he really knows the results before the show and Ryan says yes.  Simon asks him and he says he won't tell him so Simon says "this room is getting claustrophobic" and walks out ticked.  Simon says Ryan is like a mosquito, flying around in your bedroom and you are swatting at it and it can't be bothered.  Simon said he thought last year was the least amount of talent ever and if this year was another like last, the show would end.  But he said this year he thinks is the best talent ever and he puts David Archuleta at the top, doesn't rule out Brook, David Cook and Jason Castro.

I think your predictions are pretty good.  I might switch some of the ordering, but I think the top 2 will be David Cook and David Archuletta.  It's hard to know, though, because people vote irrationally and not always for who's best.  The only reason Jason Castro is still on there is because girls think he's cute.

The problem is Geoff, people are still watching it in droves (including all of us), so until we stop watching, it will be on the air, doesn't matter if there's any talent or not. I agree, Robie, "So You Think You Can Dance" is the best! The dancers are great, and the judges actually give real, constructive advice. They should have this show on twice a year instead of Idol or Dancing with the Stars! I'm still pretty angry at Geoff that he didn't offer me the free tickets he had. Maybe I'll get over it soon...

The only thing bad about "so you think you can dance" is the host.   Kat almost ruins the show!!    Charolette why do you have to keep reminding me that I had a chance to see it and didn't go....    what a mistake!!

I love Shane Sparks -- his choreography is awesome and I love his comments -- if I had to make a choice I'd say he is my favorite as well. I think Wade is USUALLY really good too, but his work in the last finale left me seriously scratching my head. Just wasn't up to his usual standard at all. I really like Mia too! That song she choreographed last year "Time" about meeting her dad in heaven -- OMG I was crying so hard! Guess it's cause I'm such a daddy's girl. I liked that song she did the previous year with the park bench too. Let's get this show back on the air already!

Oh geez, I just loved it. In fact, I drove Caitrin down to U of O today to spend the weekend with Leah, and on the way back all by myself in the car, I just so happened to listen to that song in my car, and I played it over and over and cried alot! Other drivers must see me, and think "What is wrong with that nutcase?" Ha ha! I love a good cry...

Eww lets get back to Idol, I'm not into the dance show judges, they're too hard to watch, I guess I need to record the show and THEN watch it to fast forward through the judges comments and continuous laughing, as Geoff pointed out to me last season.

Sooooo anybody seen The Moment of Truth--my boss was telling me about it and then Brad saw one with a Mormon lady the other night--this show breaks up a few marriages.  I watched that particular one and it showed updates on what happened to the people in previous shows after they spoke the truth to win money.

So I was wrong last night BUT I forgot that they always have a SHOCK elimination!!  Jim Hill told Steven that American Idol picks the bottom 3 and whoever of the 3 got the least votes is kicked out.  Does anyone else believe this?

no.   i think he really got the least amount of votes.   i think him and David Cook were splitting votes.  If there are two singers that are identical in sound and look, then one of them is always in trouble, cuz they have to try and fight for the votes from the fans that like that style of music.  And in this case, Cook was winning all those votes.  Like, i would think one of the blondies could be next to go.  They are probably the last ones splitting votes.

I think they do the bottom 3 vote getters.  I don't think he was the worst, but he wasn't really the best either.  People are motivated to vote for people they think might be in danger.  People probably assumed he was fine and voted for other people instead.  Reinforces my thinking that they should have people vote for the least favorite.

I definitely agree with Geoff. Whoever is splitting votes gets kicked off.  I really thought Asiah was good but she was obviously splitting votes with Syesha.  I'm surprised Michael went home but then again who would his fan base be, and probably sharing with Cook if anyone.  I like Cook but come on Archuleta I want you to win because your voice is THE best!

The only people that were good tonight were the two Davids.  Brook was the worst and David Cook was by far the best!!  Mariah sounds SO good when she sings, that is real talents.   Most of the people on american idol can sing good but can't even touch Mariah as far as talent.  (I really don't like Brookes voice.  I don't know what it is but she just doesn't sound that good.)

Ya Mariah is one of a kind. I can't understand why anyone likes David Cook's song tonight...I thought it was really weird and Tyler and I thought it was a bomb, we were shocked to see that the judges like it. We're just tired of the raspy rock voice from Creed, Nickleback, Daughtry, and now him even though he's probably the best singer out of those bands. Archuleta was our favorite tonight. Brooke will be gone soon, there's no way she can win.

this is funny.  now i think we've covered that ALL of them are mediocre or suck.  Syesha just screams every song.  Archuleta sounds like a frog.  Cook was crying??  that was really odd, and i agree, his song was really kinda weird.  Brooke's might have been the worst performances last night, even tho she sang one of the better Mariah songs.  She was singing really fast, like she was in a hurry.  Stoner boy will be so high, he'll never remember to go the recording studio.  Oregon girl was just a little boring again.  It's funny with her, she just has no ability to evoke any emotion in her performances.  I've used ziplock bags with more emotion.

I know this is weird but I actually think I would enjoy listening to a CD made by Jason Castro. I enjoy that kind of slow soft music and I can see myself playing it while cleaning the house or something, or driving in the car =) I realized that last night, cause if he had his own songs taylored to his sound and voice I think they would be realy good. kind of a bob marley sort of sound. Any takers?

I think I'll pass on the Jason Castro CD. :-)  I didn't watch last night, but I read that David Cook's sick brother (with cancer) was in the audience.  That's why he was so emotional.

Hhahah funny how different everyone's opinions are.  I loved Archuleta, very much disliked Cooks rendition even though he's usually one of my favorites.  Brooke didn't do well and I thought Syesha did awesome even though I don't like her.  So last night was kind of opposites for me I guess, except Archuleta - he's always my favorite and I would DEFINITELY buy his CD.  Alesha, Dave also likes Jason and would buy his CD because it's relaxing so he totally agrees.

i somewhat agree, alesha.  but he kind is kind of ripping off a sound that a hawaiian guy does... ugh, cant remember the name.  but sort of that laid back, light ukelele background music.   the guy sounds white, but he is like a 500 pound Polynesian guy.  Aaaah found him -

Alesha Brooke was one of your top two!!  I never liked her because I knew she didn't have a good voice.  it was hard to tell when they were doing easy songs but after mariah week and last night you can REALLY tell that Brooke isn't that great.  I'm not going to say told you: )  I stil lthink that David Cook is going to win.  David Archeuleta has a better voice BUT David Cook is the whole package!!  Great voice and great performer.   I thought it was funny that Brooke didn't make a million comments while she was being judged.  I want her and the dread lock guy gone.

Brooke can sing, but obviously she doesn't have a Mariah voice, everyone knew she would choke that week. She has a totally different sound. I was talking about her stopping and starting over tonight. She should have kept going. I actually think she sang decent. She would have sang better if she didn't get nervous about starting over.  I finally liked Cook tonight cause he sang something totally different than rock. Do you really want another Daughtry on the radio??

i've always liked Ryan Seacrest, but at the very beginning of the show, i thought he was going to pull a muscle when saying "THIS................. is aMER ican....  IDOL!!!!"     He says it harder and with more animation every week.

Brooke really bombed, and that might do it for her.  I'm thinking she is gone.  I think Carrie Underwood is going to win again this year.

WE WATCHED AMERICAN IDOL LAST NIGHT.  I was SOO happy they were singing songs of Andrew Lloyd Weber so I actually liked it.  It was fun seeing him coach the singers.  I saw him in person one year when I worked at the Academy Awards.  I loved David Cook UNITL the last note--I did not like the yelling of the last note--that is not how it is suppose to be sung.  I have to admit the girl (?) that sang Jesus Christ superstar sang with a more powerful voice than the rest but that is another one of those "yelling" songs--the whole reason I don't like American Idol.  I actually liked Brooke but not very powerful.  I felt like she was up against Madonna singing that song.  I was so busy watching David's eyes.  I like his song but another one I wished would have had more power.

Wow mom I'm impressed that you finally watched Idol.  I saved it for you but I guess you're already there.  Geoff I remember Ryan's AMERican Idol this week too!  I told Dave sheesh he really went for it this week didn't he!  hahaha  Feel sorry for Brooke, I think she'll go before Jason this week since she messed up.  ugh that was awful, so uncomfortable.  Then I liked her song but she was shakey.   I usually like Cook but that whole thing I agree with Simon's comments, and a little creepy for some reason.  Liked Archuleta's but definitely not his best.  I want Archuleta to win!  I'll buy his CD before Cook.

tonight is the show that you can watch in about 8 minutes.  skip thru the recap.  skip thru the cheezy Ford commercial.  Slow down and watch the musical performance from the guest that week.  Then skip thru the drama of him separating people and 'teasing' the audience in some new clever way, tee hee tee hee.  LAME.    Then see hit play for the final few minutes, and watch everyone hug and cry.  The best part is watching them try to sing when they are sobbing.

Finally watched them sing this week on DVR.  I gotta tell ya, David Cook has an amazing voice and sang that Phantom of the Opera song like a pro.  There've been many times that I rewind and rewatch that guy sing his songs because it's so good.  Archuletta is just a little too Kermit the Frog for me.  Cook has a beautiful crisp tone to his voice and sings like an absolute pro.

I see that all of Geoff's official picks that he posted at the beginning of this blog are gone now.  Quite the judge of talent there Peepsi.  I was going to say that I'd picked David Cook from the beginning but I never actually posted that here on TF so I guess I have no proof.

and you think the fans get the talent right?  ur sadly mistaken.  You can keep David Cook.  He doesnt have a lot of creativity, or personality.  But at least he's honest.  He even admits he gets all his cool versions of songs from the internet, Youtube and stuff.

i thought it was awesome that pothead was caught yawning on tape last night.  Jodie saw it, so I rewinded it and sure enough, he is in a huge yawn when they pop to him on camera for a second.  then a few seconds later while Syesha is performing, Carly and Ryan are in the background having a very animated discussion, waving their hands around and stuff.  It was so rude and hilarious.

I didn't catch all that side stuff and yawning, I'll have to watch it again.

This isn't a creativity or a personality contest Peepsi it's a singing contest.  I really don't care where David Cook get's his arrangements for his songs because when he performs them he's brilliant.  However, I do think his personality is fine, he's confident when he sings and always appears polite.  Of course none of us hang out with the guy on weekends so we don't know his true personality.  The fans DO get it wrong and like last year judged on personality and popularity rather than talent and we ended up with Taylor Hicks.  Nice going Soul Patrol!

i think i might finally throw in the towel on this show.  it was very boring last night.  Simon has quit caring.  He is just there to pick up his check, and couldnt care less about finding talent anymore.  There were a lot of promising singers that started the show, but none of them have stepped it up to become a superstar.  yawn.

Here's a question.  Of everyone who watches the show, how many of you actually vote?  I've watched a lot of episodes this season but haven't ever voted.  I guess I just don't care enough to call.

I've never voted. I think we're done with the show, we didn't watch last week, so I guess we'll only watch again if we're ever really bored. But I never really had the opportunity to vote, in a way, because I always TiVoed it, then watched the show and the results show on the same night.

I've voted a few times, but not enough to really call myself a voter.  Can you believe Paula forgot how many songs Jason sang???  That was hilarious!  And yes David Cook is more the package but I want to see Archuleta win because his voice is sooo awesome.  Brooke barely kept it together last night during her goodbye song, I didn't think she was going to make it.

Tyler and I have voted maybe twice. But that was a few weeks ago. I'm surprise Jason is still in the running, i bet he goes next but Sayesha might be going before him. Thought for sure at the beginning of the show that a girl would win since they seemed so much better but now its almost only boys left.

the best part of Idol is watching them be forced to sing while they are bawling.  That would be a great reality show, if they did that for the full hour.

and yah jodi, there is an article out there today talking about Paula's mess up.  She basically got caught in a lie, proving that she had seen the rehearsals, and thought she had already seen both songs by Jason, cuz she HAD seen them in practice.  Which they have always said they only see the actual performance.  So now they are questioning the integrity of the rest of the show and the voting process.

I still think Simon has lost all interest.  He used to drop $1 million of his own money on the winner, hoping that their album would be huge and he'd make a ton.  Now, the show itself generates so much revenue, that I think he couldn't care less about recording the actual album.  That is just a waste of his time, when he can just sit in his chair, drink a Coke, and collect his paycheck.

Geoff, what was the rumor about Paula that Ryan Seacrest said was NOT true?  I don't know what he was referring to.  Interesting about Paula seeing the rehearsals.  I don't think that really matters though, since the public vote is the deciding factor.  It's funny to watch Simon sitting in his chair when he thinks he's not being filmed.  Looks so bored sometimes.  hahah I DID like the sign behind him that said Simon for governor of Cowell-fornia, that was creative.

it is kind of funny.  After his song, while Ryan was saying "to vote for Jason, call blah blah..."  the dreadlock boy actually mouths the words "don't vote".  Now that was pretty funny.

I'm so over this show  BUT....   I did watch it tonight, only because my feet hurt and I needed to use my foot massager, and I think David Cook is going to win!!   Hands down he is the BEST left.   I just don't get how people can't see that David Arch is such a gospel, christian music singer.    What a boring show it was tonight!!!

Yeah, I read they had some official statement about his dad getting kicked off backstage out of fairness to the other contestants because his dad had musical experience and they didn't think it was fair for him to be helping his son when the others didn't get help.  I'm sure that wasn't the real reason though.

YEAH ARCHULETA!!!! He's going to take it!! I can't wait for tonight.  Cook really unimpressed me with his performances for being the last day of competition.  Seems like he was acting like it was just another week.  Oh well!  Too bad Cook.  I think he hates Simon after Simon saying every round that Archuleta is awesome.

I didn't like that Arculeta sang a song he'd already done.  But maybe that's what they were supposed to do because Simon criticzed David Cook for NOT singing one of his best from prior shows.

Didn't watch it but I have it taped.  Can't believe I got so far with this just cause Alesha set it up on my DVR and now I HAVE to see the end.  One article said Arch will win cause of all the old people watching it and they want a wholesome winner.

How did you like the bigscreen teleprompter they were reading from during their songs?  You could barely see it when they did camera shots from behind the singer.  What a rip off.  What is this, karaoke hour?  I wonder if Madonna or Van Halen uses a teleprompter.   These guys should have enough brains to memorize a song, or they shouldnt be in the business.

Archuleta has all the teenie-boppers, and mature old people.  Cook only has a small sector of rockers.  I'd have to say Archuleta wins.  Funny, cuz he can't even sing an upbeat song at all.  I can't wait until he makes an appearance on the muppets dressed in green.  Ribbit!

It's funny how this blog is updated every week - sets of comments 1 week ago, 2 weeks ago, and so on. Anyway, I have now seen some of American Idol, Mom is here and wanted to watch last night so we saw most of the episode together. Yes, David Cook was reading a teleprompter during his songs.  Pretty lame.

Pretty decent show last night though.  Didn't care who won, not buying either album.  George Michael was a freak.  Carrie Underwood, holy smokes.  Now that is what i think all celebs should be looking like, with all that access to awesome diets and fancy healthy foods and personal trainers and time to do it.  Then look at Jordin Sparks.  Have a few cheeseburgers?

I just watched AI last night and was pretty impressed.  The opening duet with the Davids 'wings of a hero'  was great.  Cook's voice was perfect for that song and Archuleta was good harmonizing.  Tons of great oldies resurrected including ZZ Top, Brian Adams and George Michael.  The One Republic song 'Apologize' with Archuleta was unbelievable.  Ryan Tedder from One Republic has an amazing voice and can do some pretty cool voice inflections and sounded just as perfect as if it was the CD.  Archuleta was pretty good on the song too.  George Michael sounded good and it was good to see him come out of the woodwork after almost 20 years.  Carrie Underwood's song was pretty dumb.  Both Davids sounded good but I think Cook deserved the win.  I'm sure both will have successful careers.

so the reason American Idol was so good last night, is partially because there are actually some good contestants this year, but also cuz they FINALLY picked a great artist.  They usually pick these recording artists who have 2 or 3 good hits, and so the contestants seem weak.

Last night they had the best one ever - Michael Jackson.  Almost every performance was really good.

Dave and I are calling it from day one that the theater guy from Hollywood is going to win.  He's soooo awesome!  We watch his performances over and over at least 3 times.  Last performance was better than last night, but still good. Paula's in love with that guy.  And second place will be Danny.  Third place one of the girls.  I actually like the tattoo sleeve girl the best out of the girls, since she has such a unique voice that I totally love.

I don't like that guy.  He is so dramatic when he sings.  I like the Justin Timberlake guy the best.  The person I like the least is the girl that sang the cherry  or apple song that dances really weird and her whole arm is covered in tats.

hahaha Robie you like the same guy as Dave.  Dave's personal favorite is the Justin Timberlake guy too.  But still thinks Adam the theater guy will win.  I agree he was a bit over the top last night, but still good.  You really don't like tattoo girl?  She sang Rockin' Robin by the way.  I think she dances HORRIBLE but love her unique voice.

Sad to say I'm not into it this year...I've added on two extra hours to my work days now that I'm working in SLC. But I watched the Rockin Robin since I also heard on the radio that she danced funny, but I didn't think it was bad, she just looked like she was having fun. I really like her, she was good, but can't compare her to anyone else since she's all I've sing.

Well, all caught up with AI.  Kanye was dope (I'm into Hip Hop now remember?)  I know all the words to Heartless.  Haha.  Kelly sounded good but looked pretty chubby.  Not sure about that Adam guy, he just sounded like a screaming gay guy to me.  The guy on the piano was really good, (not the blind guy) I dunno, it was tough to catch up, I fast forwarded through a lot of it.

Okay before I watch the results show on DVR I have to say that I think this is the most talented season we've ever had.  I think everyone was awesome last night.  If I had to pick someone to go home I'm guessing it'll be the blind guy or the oil rig guy.  Adam's song was a little too weird for me, but still amazed by his note range, it's amazing.

yah, i am finally impressed with most of the singers, unlike the past few seasons.

i cant believe that one guy sang Carrie Underwood's song.  I thought that was so cheezy, even though he made it sound pretty good.  Adam is so good, but he is going to 'weird' his way right out of the competition.  That Johnny Cash song could have been really cool, but that was just horrible.

And with YouTube around these days, I am finding it hard to believe anybody's creativity.  I always think "oh, they copied this from something they found on YouTube" every time I see something I might like.

Ya Adam's definitely the most talented person on American Idol, but he might not win if he does really unique stuff like this every week.  He won't get enough mainstream votes, and then Danny will win.  I didn't like Carrie's hair.  It looked like a big ball, and too much hairspray because not a single strand moved when she turned her head.  Kind of like HIllary Clinton.  :-)

well, that might be the biggest waste of talent, ever.   Megan acted so foolish, it was hard to watch.  She knew she was doing terrible, and that everyone else was passing her up, so then she starts mocking the show.   Talk about blowing your chance at being a millionaire, in record time.  Way to go, idiot.   She is a classic case of someone with talent (see it all the time in the NBA) but that has no ability to be a star, by giving it 150% effort and work.

Ya I really liked her until she acted ridiculous last night.  She was acting like she was drunk.  And what a weird reaction to being cut.  Wide-eyed and totally over it.  I don't see her making an album any time soon...anymore.  I thought she sang the song terrible after she got let go.  Typically they sing it better, trying to get picked up by a music company.  Adam again did awesome.  Yeah!  my favorite. Danny did a great job too.  My second favorite now that Megan is gone.

As soon as I saw Pickler I was surprised.  Didn't notice her nose, but surprised that she was so "clean".  Other than the fact it was still a miniskirt.  Usually she's in black and leather and tons of makeup.  Kind of looked like imitation carrie underwood.  She sang okay.  Kind of pitchy.   Yeah Adam for another awesome performance!  He's amazing.

i hate to spoil your moment, mom, but seriously, am I the only one that sees this as a lip sync joke?  I mean, even Simon is looking at her, almost laughing, like he knows the joke.  And he sets it all up with all the leading questions at the beginning.

When she goes into those huge vibratos her mouth, neck, lips, and head aren't even moving.  That doesn't seem possible.  Even Whitney Houston shakes when she does vibratos.

yah, she has become super famous already.  Been on yahoo home page twice now.  So, if it is real, then I guess i am wrong.  But if it is fake, then I called it from day 1.

I saw it a couple days ago and thought it was real and watched it again after Geoff's comment and I still think it's real.  I'm getting bored of AI.  The judges goof off the whole time and it gets so annoying.  I don't like Adam.. he belongs on a broadway reality show.  I like Matt the best b/c he is the most modest and I like his style of music.  It was a relief not to have to watch and listen to the blind guy this week!!  I never thought he was a good singer.

hahhaha mom.  Well I saw that lady on the news last night, so if it is fake then they've fooled a few.  but they didn't interview her directly, just showed the video clip and talked about it.  Robie how can you not think Adam is an amazing singer?  Dave will be glad to hear that Matt's your favorite.  I like Danny over Matt but I don't think Danny's been singing well the last couple weeks.  Blind guy didn't have that good of a voice, I also think.

this was the first time that i thought Adam could pull off a new version of "Billy Idol".  He's a little too theatrical and whiney, but if he toughened up a bit, and rocked a little more, that could be an interesting nitch.  Haven't had a "Billy Idol" in quite awhile.

Susan Boyles was on Larry King tonight with the judge Piers Morgan.  They both relayed what it was like the night she auditioned.  He said Simon Cowells is a business man and he is sure he is seeing dollar signs and figuring out a way to get her to record in Hollywood.  She talked about how she chose that song.  Her Utube had 30 million hits.

I read about her in the newspaper.  She lives in Scotland in a cottage with her cat.  She's never been kissed, and enjoys karaoking and her neighbors know she has a pretty good voice.  She cared for her mother until she died, and then decided she'd audition for the show in honor of her mom.

hahah that IS interesting, Geoff.  With American Idol, and probably Britain's Got Talent, while you're still on the show the show "owns" you and your voice so you can't perform publicly or take record deals while still filming..

Danny Gokey is just so nerdy on stage.  Sings good, but he just needs to stop moving around.  He's so goofy.  Lollipop Head needs to go.  Her scratchy voice has kinda gotten old.  And honestly, Adam Lamberts screeching just makes me laugh now.  He looks hilarious when he does it, and he does it way too much.

My guy, Kris, was the best again.

Kris?  No, Adam is still the best.  But I think Kris deserves second place.  Ya Danny used to be my second favorite, but now it's probably Kris.  I thought Archuleta sounded horrible tonight, I don't know what happened.  But he was still better than the other 3 famous artists, they were all awful awful.   Simon sure got upset when Ryan asked him about calling Danny frumpy or whatever it was.  Clearly Simon didn't have an answer!  My ABSOLUTE favorite was their dance routine! hahhaha they all looked hilarious with their different level of dance skills.  Matt is the best dancer.

boy, was that a terrible show last night or what?  Archuleta sounded worse than he did in week 1 of his tryouts.  And those retro singers were old and terrible.  The best part, shockingly, was the dance, like you said Jodi.  It was really good, considering they had little time to learn it.

Amazing, that even how dumb and goofy Paula Abdul can sound during her comments, that when she actually does her thing, she is really good at it.

and oh yah, Adam is not the best.  I doubt any of you could take 90 minutes of that voice, listening to it for 12 to 15 songs on an album while on the road.  Kris is the best, now be quiet Jodi.

ya I thought it was a joke when he showed up, because I didn't know he even did anything but act.  Apparently he's a successful singer and actor?  Anyway I think he did a good job.  And contrary to that was the country guy that sang with Carrie; didn't seem like that guy gave any good advice.  Liked Adams performance again!

Geez Jodi, where have you been?  "Blame it on the AL-AL-AL-AL-AL-AL-cohol."

Man, I had to sing that a few times to get the right # of AL's.  I'm still in my weird hip hop phase, that's how I know that song.

I watched an Oprah last night with Dave that had Simon Cowell on it.  Have you seen that one yet?  Yep, Susan Boyle was via Skype and talked with Oprah and Simon about how her life has changed.  And they showed a video clip of her in her house and story about her growing up with her mom singing all the time while doing housework.   Simon really likes her.  I'm still voting for Adam by the way. But Kris Allen did pretty well last night!  Don't like Danny anymore, too pompous for me lately.

Watched your video Geoff.  I just think it's a girl that has practiced a low "talking" voice.  But good voice.  Don't care to watch a person that looks like a guy, sing like that so he won't go far.

I am still not a big fan of Adam....he is SOOO dramatic when he sings   I will finally agree with Geoff that Kris is the best right now and I hope he wins.  It's hard to watch him because he moves his mouth all weird.  It's almost like he goes out of his way to make those faces.  I can't believe he hasn't watch video of himself singing and hasn't tried to stop doing that.   I still miss Matt.  Too bad Matt didn't have Kris's voice... that would be the perfect american idol: )  I thought the judges were SOOO annoying last night.

I think Adam will be good once he has some more professional-level coaching.  Minimize that screeching with the tongue sticking out.  That is already old, and makes me laugh.  He could be a good rocker, if someone can teach him how to "rock" and not how to "prance" around the stage.  I still think he could make a great 2009 "billy idol" kind of artist, if he just wasn't so fruity.

Kris - yah, his face is pretty funny to watch.  He has already gotten way better tho, at not contorting his face.  I could listen to a whole album of Kris's songs, any time.  Nice easy listening, kind of a reggae rhythm to his style.

Danny has been boring to me, for weeks now.  Good singer, just not my type.  Kind of sounds like Michael Bolton, and I don't like him either.

That was a great Oprah.  The best best was that Signature group.  Here is a link to the Oprah to see who they are but I wish you could see them perform.  If anyone can find a clip or how to view them in action let me know.

http://www.oprah.com/article/seriesandspecials/previousshows/pkgscreeningroom/20090508-tows-world-talent/10

But I tried to pull them up on U-Tube and it says the video was pulled for copyright reasons.  They were fantastic.  Simon says he predicts Adam to win on Idol.

that final song for the contestants was sooo lame.   i cant believe that song even made it on Idol. it was so full of cheezy cliche's. it made both of them sound ridiculous, and you could tell neither of them even wanted to sing it.

No boundaries...  climb a mountain... take my hand...

goodness sakes.

hard to tell who is going to win.

maybe Tyler should lhave submitted his song this year...last year it didn't make it to the finals. But I think a lot of that is because it wasn't recorded professionally. It's a really good song. Simi-cheesy but not too cheesy.

I thought the lyrics were pretty cheesy too.  I laughed when Simon started to rip on it, and then decided to spare Kara.  I did like the rhythm though.  You could definitely tell neither of the guys cared for the song when they sang it.

Not sure if Brad is talking about something else, but I know she is on this Wed. night on America's Got Talent.  Banana Spheel is part of a Cirque du soleil performance that she is in.  Oh, and Kathleen is a friend of Jodi's that used to live here in FV in our ward.  One of her many accomplishments is she played the witch in Broadway performance of Wicked in Japan.

jodie and i watch each episode in about 10 minutes, blasting thru boring Ellen and her non-stop forced stuttering.  Ellen, stop fake-stuttering, and talk normal.  It's old.

It's odd to me how all the big stars just do not sound very good on American Idol stages.  Rihanna last night was awful.  Kesha was sooo bad.  Archuleta was pretty solid.  Usher was lame.  That Dianoaloa guy or whatever his name was sounded bad.

Yep, totally agree they shouldn't have saved Big Mike.  He doesn't have a chance of winning.  Save it for someone who will.  ya the black guy last night sounded really bad.  Kara is wayyy more annoying than Ellen.

Okay, now that i've pointed it out, try and listen to Ellen.  Every 3rd or 4th word she feels the need to start it two or three times.  "Well, i really liked your, your, your performance."

It will annoy you.  I don't know if she's trying to brand that as her comical schtick, but I dunno, it's dumb.

by alesha - 2 years ago

I LOVE Ellen, she doesn't annoy me at all. Ty and I think she's hilarious. What's annoying is Kara using her hands so much every time she talks. She's a know-it-all so I think, like Jodi, that she is more annoying.

I've always thought Big Mike would be in the top 3 at least, so I wasn't surprised they saved him. I think he's good but not my absolute favorite. As Ty said last night, it's all for ratings since they haven't been doing well at all. They are trying to make it exciting.

I couldn't stand Rhianna's performance last night at all. And I would say the worst performance of all time had to be Kesha.

Weird ya because I like Ellen pretty much.  I did notice she stutters and I thought "why does she do that?" for a talk show host that thinks so quick on her feet.  But the bagpipe guy getting separated from his parade, that was funny! She's had a few that leave me laughing hysterically.

Rihanna's hair whipping drove me crazy.  What kind of hairstyle is that- why would you do that football-bang look like Peppermint Patty from Peanuts?? Especially if you had to whip it out of your face every 10 seconds?

I thought the bagpiper was hilarious. Didn't make sense and didn't add anything, but I couldn't stop laughing when I saw him come out. So at least it was memorable and probably got him some votes.

This is by far the most talented group AI has ever had.  Out of all the seasons.  Dave and I listed as top 5:

Steven Tyler funny girl who Alesha and I like

Casey Abram; is that the guy with the cello? AWESOME

DJ guy with weird glasses even though he's mean I like his voice

guy with the thin beard who kind of looks like Tres who has the smokey soft voice

and the dark skin girl who isn't the one that wears all the poofy dresses but the other one - the girl that plays the keyboard.

YAY for an awesome upcoming AI this season!!!

Correction - Our 5th pick was not the dark-skinned girl but the white girl with the frizzy frizzy long brown hair.  She's the BEST girl by far.  Usually wears those short, loose skirts with high-heel boots.
