'Nice guys' win $1 mil prize on 'Amazing Race'Story Highlights
Rachel Rosales and TK Erwin take home top prize on "Amazing Race"

Final leg was in Alaska

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Rachel Rosales and TK Erwin finished first in The Last Frontier to win CBS' "The Amazing Race" and the reality TV show's $1 million prize.

"Amazing Race" host Phil Phil Keoghan, left, greets Rachel Rosales and TK Erwin at the finish.

During the around-the-world race's final leg in Anchorage, Alaska, the couple from Huntington Beach, California, searched through tanks filled with live crabs, scaled the side of a glacier, soared through the air in a helicopter and solved a complicated puzzle before crossing the finish line at Girdwood Airport.

"Nice guys can definitely finish first," the dreadlocked Erwin said after their win.

Erwin, 22, and Rosales, 23, outraced father-and-daughter team Ronald and Christina Hsu and grandfather-and-grandson team Donald Jerousek and Nicolas Fulks during the race's final leg.

"I knew it was going to be crucial to stay calm," Rosales said, referring to the complex puzzle composed of objects from previous challenges that contestants had to figure out before racing to the finish line.

In the twelfth edition of "The Amazing Race," racers trekked from the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles through Ireland, the Netherlands, Burkina Faso, Lithuania, Croatia, Italy, India, Japan and Taiwan to their final destination in Alaska. E-mail to a friend

These winners went to high school with Alesha at Fountain Valley High School.  Tyler (TK) is the same age as Alesha (22) and is now a millionaire.  His girlfriend is a year older.

I don't think TK is a millionaire -- first, the taxes get taken out, then the balance is split between TK and Rachel, so they each probably only get about, what, $250,000? Still, I think it would be an amazing experience to do this race. Brent's not as enthusiastic as me, but I think it would be a great thing to do just before my 50th birthday! Before you even posted this, I spent the morning trying to figure out how to apply, deadlines, etc. I think, though, that they haven't started recruiting for the next season, as the latest stuff I could find was for Season 12 -- and the deadlines were January 2007. Anyone know anything different? We've never even watched a full season -- just an episode here and there -- so I'm probably crazy to even think about it. Also, based on the season 12 application package, I don't think Brent and I would stand a chance of getting picked, because it looks like they really want people with semi-dysfunctional relationships, or semi-dysfunctional personalities. I think we're too boring and normal to get picked.

Yup, I knew it wasn't a millionaire as I wrote it but it sounded good.  Yeah, they do have some strange combinations--how about you and your mom?  No really, you should try.  I knew that 2 of the original were from FV.  That is the only reason I watched it.  I have never seen it before as I am not into reality shows.  But then the girl from FV was out almost from the beginning and then Nate from FV, had the biggest nag and complainer for a grilfriend made it to 4th place.  I thought TK and Rachel were so cute with each other I decided I wanted them to win.  I NEVER had any idea they were from FV.  The newspaper here talked about Nate and the girl but never mentioned TK and Rachael--unitl I woke up this morning with the headlines saying they went to FV High School.  I got out Alesha's yearbooks and there they were.  I called Alesha and she hadn't watched it at all this time and sure enough when I said his name she knew him.  Another OC person won previously.  SO if there can be 4 from FV and 3 winners from OC there has to be a chance for someone from Lake Oswego.

Charlotte, you are 100% right.  All these reality shows go thru hundreds of thousands of applicants, and they look for people that can't get along with other people.  Whoever scores the worst on that test, gets in these shows.  Just watch a few episodes of Survivor or Big Brother, and after a few days even, they are ready to kill each other.   Blows me away to think you could hate someone that much after a few hours.  I mean, its taken 36 years for me to develop my hatred of Sean.

I rarely watch Amazing Race, but i followed this one, because TK and Rachel were finally some normal people to root for.  Glad they won.

Read this morning that they told their friends and family that they were going hiking across Europe.  They couldn't even tell them they were going to be on the Race.  Then they had to keep it secret that they won, of course, until it aired.  So if Chaco goes on an extended trip to some far away place we will all be suspicious.

Just finally got to read this, since we hadn't watched the last episode until last night. Neat that Alesha knows them, I wonder whether they are still a couple? You always wonder afterwards whether people actually stay together.

Amazing Race is the only reality show I'd ever go on, but as Geoff and others said, I'm sure it's almost impossible to cast. I think Allen would be great at most of the tasks. I can read maps, at least, that would be my contribution :-)

I actually enjoyed watching this one, as all 3 of the final teams seemed pretty decent. The father, Ron, was a bit obnoxious, but the daughter seemed very normal. Anyway, I say you should go for it Charlotte, unless of course they're filming during the family reunion! I figure my kids are way too young, so by the time I could apply they show won't be on any more.

Oh, I don't know about the application, but I'm pretty sure they are not showing another one until this fall at least, so maybe they would run it this summer sometime?

Yeah, I asked her that.  Guess she has nothing to say.  Aimee, they are still a couple.  They just celebrated the other night with friends at the local restaurant.

Nice to know, it's always good to hear that people who appeared nice and good to each other are still that way!
