Alli's Surgery

Submitted by Valorie on Mon, 04/06/2009 at 7:24am.

Ally went in this morning for a little surgery that they have waiting to perform right before she starts school.  She went in at 6 and we will wait to hear from her mom and dad.  There are 2 surgeries--one for a small hernia in her abdominal area and also surgery to pull her ears back tighter to her head.  She will wear a fancy headband for a few days.  She is expected to come home tonight if all goes well.  She took a tour of the hospital Sat with her family so that she is familiar with the surroundings and will know what to expect.  Keep her in your prayers and more will follow.

Robie and I are both sitting here in the waiting room with laptops.  The best thing hospitals have ever done is install wireless.  Too bad all the places Dad and Dawn have seemed to go don't have it.

No word yet, she's in right now.

wow, Alli's going to be a whole new woman.  Is she going to miss her marble though?  :-)  I'm sure all will go well.

She is out now and sleeping.  She sucked a hand a bit before falling asleep again.

Sean said they are home and Robie and Alli are sleeping.  He is juggling kids and messes--but he only has 3 so what is he complaining about?

I wasn't complaining.  Just that I don't have time for IM's 100 times a day when I am doing the other.  I get 5 minutes and then I've got to go put out fires.

Why don't you have time for 100 IMs?  Robie does.

Alli is feeling really good today.  The only pain med she is on is regular motrin.  I am shocked at how fast she has recovered.   The hardest thing now is trying to get her to stay down.  She already wants to get up and play.  She was very brave yesterday.   It was nice to see Holly yesterday at the hospital.  Alli loves her puppy.  Thanks!!

Kids are amazingly resilient, aren't they? I remember when Alex had his cochlear implant surgery, he had this huge scary looking pressure bandage wrapped all around his head, but we were having a hard time keeping him from jumping and running around (he had just turned 4). He recovered so quickly, they let us fly home a day early! I'm glad it sounds like things were the same for Alli. Yeah!

The doctor that stitched Kasey up the second time had the same ear surgery as Alli but she had it when she was 22.  She said she was sick and throwing up for days.  I researched online to see if it would be the same for kids and most parents said there kids didn't feel much pain and some didn't even have to be on pain pills.  That is one of the reasons why they recommend doing it at this age.

Oh wow Jason was telling me that she was going to go in for the surgery but didn't tell me when. I'm glad she is doing good and that everything went well.

Well, taking the bandages off her ears and have to say they are a lot better. They are still quite swollen and hard to tell but a big difference.

Just cosmetic, because we are so vain.  :)  They were pretty lopsided.  Kaiser has free coverage on it.  Besides, they were all out of stock on this:
