Adventures in Babysitting

Submitted by Brittany on Mon, 12/01/2008 at 3:17pm.

I'm coming home in less than two weeks (where did the time go?!) and since I probably won't get a teaching job midyear, I'm looking to pick up some nannying/babysitting in the meantime.  If anybody needs somebody a few times a week, or if you have friends that do, please give them my name and number.  I'm pretty flexible, have my own car, and I'm pretty qualified.  I charge about $10/hr on average.  Feel free to give out my number (971.221.5300) or email (britsbigelow@gmail.com).  I am also going to teach some violin lessons but there's not as much demand for that.  Those are $20 per half hour lesson.  If this sounds desperate, it probably is.  After being in D.C. for one semester, I am financially drained!

I actually have some students for you - one piano student and about 4 violin students already - plus there is a group class in the making for those little kindergarteners - not sure how much you want to charge for that but it looks like there could be about 4 of them that want a group class together....and hopefully we can get you signed up for subbing very soon, because around mid January I think I'll start using my sick leave and just let you manage my orchestras and lovely choir for a day or two!  I could collect my sick leave staying home and you could make a hundred bucks a day to go pretend to be me!

Oh, and you might as well text DeAnn because she talked to me again today to find out what day you'd be home.

Brit you should make sure to get signed up for subbing in districts around here. In my school alone there are 8 people who are looking for long term subs due to maternity leave! It's a great way to get your feet wet and find out which districts you are interested in working for... Let me know if you need recommendations!!

Um, Brittany, do you have any references on this whole babysitting/nanny deal?  I mean, have you ever tended children before?
