A million dollars

If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it? This, of course, is an obvious question for me. I'd buy a lot of dogs, mostly collies, golden retrievers, labs and novia scotia duck tolling retrievers.

Wow! That would be a lot of dog food and a lot of dog cleanup....If I had a million dollars I would travel a lot to see my children and grandkids.

I would buy 4 waverunners, and rent 3 or 4 houseboats at Lake Shasta for 2 weeks, and invite everyone.  Then put the remaining $940,000 in a savings account.  And if I also bought a dog, i'd buy the Burmese Mountain dog.  They are semi-large, excellent for families, and have the softest fur i've ever felt.

Golf and lots of it . . . with Brent, Troy, Tim, Ralph (if we could entice him), Floyd (if we could get him to come out with us again) -- and lessons for anyone in the family who would want to learn.

I like Charlotte's plan! I'd probably travel a lot. Maybe quit my job, or at least drop to part time.

Oh, and Geoff, Allen and I have also agreed that we'd want to get a Bernese Mountain Dog. (And the name even sounds like Burney, bonus points!) But although we like dogs in theory, in actuality I don't think we'll ever get one.

A few years ago, Leah prepared a very impressive Power Point Presentation to try to convince us to get a Burmese Mountain Dog. Obviously, it didn't work, but if either of you would like to borrow it, I'm sure she'd be happy to forward it on to you...

I would buy a house with acreage so I could get my daughter a dog.  Of course, then she would have to do ALL the associated chores that go along with living on acreage... like mowing the lawn, cleaning up after the animals, pulling weeds in the garden, etc.

If I had a million dollars, I'd buy a vacation home somewhere like Hawaii and spend a lot of vacation time there with family and friends.  It would at least buy me a shack on the beach!

Alyssa did a power point presentation of her own on Labradoodles. Her mother has a hard and cold heart!

I agree with Mom, Aunt Charlotte and Aimee, with my leftover money I'd go to Hawaii. Probably not Kona though.

Aimee - didnt know if you were confused or not, but Burmese Mtn Dog and Bernese Mtn Dog are two different dogs.  But it is very confusing, because if you go to the official AKC site, they don't even list a "Burmese" dog.  But there are tons of other sites that talk about it.  It is from the country formerly referred to as Burma, and was bred to hunt skunks.  Even the look of its face is "skunk-like" with the black and white, to fool a skunk.  And even if the dog gets sprayed by a skunk, the odor simply rinses off with water and is gone.  And they can climb trees, which i would pay to see.  Probably looks more like a bear in a tree.  The one drawback which is also the reason for its unmatched, amazingly soft fur, is that it sheds 4 times a year.

The BERNESE mountain dog is one of 7 dogs attributed to Switzerland.  It appears to have slightly longer fur.  They were used more for herding cattle and even pulling carts.

But the fact that AKC doesnt even mention a Burmese breed is weird.

You're right, I was confused, thought they were the same. We'd looked at the Bernese one, from Switzerland. But it sounds like they have some similarities.

Little known fact about Cami Severson:  I actually own a Bernese Mtn. Dog.  Her name is Dakota.  However, sadly, she was unable to accompany us to California back in '98 and has, since, been adopted by my father.  She still likes me best though! ;)  They are fun loving dogs, very sweet dispositions.  I got her from a pound when she was 6 weeks old. She was featured in the newspaper as pet of the week and that is how I discovered that I really needed a dog.  Crazy considering that I am allergic to them.  But at the time I had been living with dogs in the house my whole life and had no idea that I didn't have to live with constant asthma and sneezing.  Now I think I am too much of a wimp and, although I would love to have a dog, logic has finally won over.

I would also buy a house in Hawaii, but it would be Kona. Pay off all bills of coarse and make sure all my kids were debt free. As far as an animal, not for me, I've been raising Jacob's dog since he left for the Marines and although very worthwhile and loving I would want to travel and not worry about the animal up keep.

If I had a million dollars I would buy a mansion, have really nice clothes and donate some money to charity or people in Africa. Then I would open a cooking school!

I just read where a Georgia truck driver, Ed Nabors, won 1/2 of the $390 million mega-millions lottery. Could someone in the family quickly do some geneaology and figure out how we're related to this guy? That could be our million...

I would use my million dollars on..........VIDEO GAMES!!!!! and maybe give the half of the dollars to the poors. Oh yeah and having alot of dogs would only make your house really smelly. So you might want to change your mind pretty soon.
