2008 Opening Ceremonies

Submitted by geoff on Fri, 08/08/2008 at 11:23pm.

Well, if you missed the opening ceremonies, that is too bad.  It was the most amazing large-scale show I have ever seen, ever.  It put to shame any Super Bowl show, awards show, anything.  At times, 2000-3000 people perfectly choreographed, synchronized, a 500 foot LED screen as a "floor" that displayed high definition images.    2000 drummers, dancers, costumes.  It's just impossible to describe how visual it was.

The Chinese are UNbelievable.  Wow.

I agree is was spellbinding - and the history we learned by sitting there watching the whole thing.  Plus my mom and I really enjoyed our geography lesson on where in the world all these countries are.  I had no idea there are actually 57 separate countries on the African continent.

I agree, although it would have been even cooler to be there in person. I think I heard the tickets were going for insane amounts.

i think american performers, choreographers, and ceremony planners have all just been shown how it should be done.

I would like to clarify... I was logged on and my mom was posting. I actually knew all the African countries, I had to correctly identify them all in a geography class.

Good for you , Brittany.  I missed all except the lighting of the torch--sad to say.  I was at Sound of Music.  Heard they spent 40 million for that opening.

There were definitely some countries I'd never heard of.  I didn't feel too bad, though, when I saw the entire population was like 12,000.

Yeah, which was the country where they were commenting on that there were more people in the stands that night than lived in their country? I think it was Andorra maybe?
