-Hazy Memory-

I need a little help here... I think. Seeing the pics and videos of the Evergreen house is bringing something back. There was a large gathering of Seversons and the younger crowd went out to play games just when it was getting dark. Someone, I believe it was Aimee, went running back towards the house from the far corner of the garden and caught a wire about shoulder high and went straight to the ground!

I don't remember it being an involved medical affair, but really that's all I can recall. Can someone from the older crowd at the time fill in the blanks?

So many injuries, it is really hard to say.  Although I will say it was very rare to have Aimee up in Oregon, and don't remember her participating much in the "outdoors after dark" games either (so many books; so little time).  There were lots of wires in the garden area -- bean poles -- so it clearly seems like it should have happened several times.  But as a general rule, Troy and I (representing this so-called, older crowd) didn't go into the garden much during those game times.  Sort of unspoken in my mind, that if I would have trampled any of Floyd's produce, his ire would have been mighty.  So I can be of no help on this one, but have plenty of these types of stories that I do remember well -- first hand.

No help on that one, but the beginning of a long career of sprained ankles started under the basketball hoop at Evergreen.  I shot a layup, and my momentum took me under the backboard, and i stepped down on the giant bush of grass at the base of the railroad tie, and snapped my ankle over.  my ankles have been weak ever since.

We'll have to wait for Aimee to weigh in, but I agree with Brandt. She seems an unlikely candidate. Maybe it was Jamie. Aimee/Jamie it gets confusing.

I once went running down to the barn in the twilight of evening.  I decided to cut down the middle of the front pasture because the double gate that we drove the tractor through was standing open.  Too late I remembered that there was electric, barbed wire running just inside the gate and that it MIGHT still be connected.  I tried to put on the brakes, but ended up not being able to stop in time.  I ended up stretching the wire taut against my thighs, spaced perfectly on the barbs to get two neat cuts, one on each leg.  My pant legs were sliced cleanly.  Of course, the doesn't begin to compare to jumping out of the pig pen onto a pile of wood, that just happened to have a 16 penny nail pointing straight up.  Thanks again for carrying me up to the house Brandt.

I remember playing capture the flag (or some such game) one night in total darkness.  I climbed the fence into the front pasture from the driveway and began running full speed East, toward Ralph Condit's house.  All of a sudden, the ground completely dropped away below me, and I went down into the far end othe septic drain field.  Since this hole was about three feet deep and a couple feet wide, I took the other side of the hole against my gut full-force!  I just laid there in the dark for a minute trying to catch my beath.  Man, that's one I remember.

Aimee I'm hoping you'll bail me out on this one, or at least clear your good name.

Nope, it was me. Jason has a good memory. I don't think I played  a lot of the evening games, but this was one of them. It wasn't in the garden, I don't think, it must have been somewhere in the orchard? On the road side of the house, but closer to the driveway than the garden.

And it wasn't actually shoulder high, the wire actually got me right under the eye. A little higher up, and it really could have been a medical affair! I think it ended up being nothing much, though. A small cute, which didn't even scar.

I'm trying to remember what year it would have been. Maybe 1985ish?

I don't believe I could've remembered this from when I was four. We'd barely gotten back from Texas if that's the case. I'm thinking I was closer to six... so 1987?

That may be. In 1987 I was 15 or 16, I would have guessed I would have done something so silly at a younger age, but then again maybe not.
